In the life; WWI

Propaganda and the News Media were big in the early 20th century when WWI is put in the picture. 2 major things were the Committee on Public Information or Creel Committee and the Schenck v. United States. The CPI was an independent agency ran by the US government to keep people interested and behind the US going into WWI. In order for the US to be successful in The Great War, It needed to be backed by the people of the US. The CPI did things like show pictures of Germans killing babies and women. Also, the CPI was backed by Hollywood and an organization called the Four Minute Men. The FMM was a group of over 75,000 members and spoke many speeches throughout the country about why we had to go to war. In the case of Schenck v. the US, it is a much more disturbing case. It basically says that in some cases the Bills of Rights don’t apply. It really gives the US power to bend its own rules and have total control over its citizens, saying we are allowed to say what we want, but only to a certain extent.
